What Sustains You?

I've been thinking about the scripture of Colossians 1:17 where it says "He before all things, and by him all things hold together." Another version says "He existed before anything else and he holds all creation together."

Now looking at the word Sustain: to support. To Strengthen. To Keep going.

Not only is God the creator of the world but he is also the sustainer. In him everything is held together protected and prevented from disintegrating into chaos. Because Christ is the sustainer and support of all life, none of us is independent from Him.

In other words we need Him. We need Jesus Christ in our lives. Look at John Ch 15 where it talks about Jesus is the vine & we are his branches. In order for branches to live it needs the vines to pump in the nutrients. If we are cut off from that vine we will wither & die.

Pastor Jeremy Foster on Easter Sunday when I watched his live stream illustrated with 2 roses. One was healthy the other had already withered. You would think the healthy one would be good but its not. Reason being is it is slowly dying because it's not connected to the source, the sustainer of life.

Life right now for everyone is chaotic with a pandemic. We need Jesus Christ to sustain us. And my question for you today is what are you doing to be sustained? What is keeping you going? What is holding you together? What are you doing to keeping going, to be strengthened? Perhaps you've drawn closer to God. Perhaps you are spending more time in His Word. Perhaps you are staying connected with everyone via online or on the phone. Maybe have taken up a project. Whatever it is, know that Christ holds all things together & he has you! Even when things fall apart in life, it's falling apart into his hands. Stay encouraged today!
